Special General Meeting & Talk by The Mendip Times : Street Society

Special General Meeting & Talk by The Mendip Times

The motion to close the society was withdrawn at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) as a result of Sue Monaghan’s request to the meeting to give her time to find officers to enable the Society to continue.  She has been unsuccessful in achieving this.

However she has garnered some interest in establishing a new group in the New Year with Community Interests at its heart.  This group would go under a different name and have differing objects to those set out in our constitution.

Therefore as no new officers came forward at the AGM or subsequently and there is no clear path forward for the society the Executive Committee has decided to call a Special General Meeting at the commencement of the October meeting on Tuesday 23rd October at 7.30pm in the Street Methodist Church, Leigh Road, STREET, BA16 0HA to discuss and vote on the following motion:

“The Executive Committee of The Street Society proposes that the Society be dissolved at the earliest opportunity in accordance with item 18 of the constitution.”

Procedure of Handling the Motion

To be passed the motion must be supported by at least a two thirds majority of members present at the Special General Meeting.

If the motion is passed the existing Executive Committee will oversee the dissolution process.  This will require a Special General Meeting to ratify the decision and the date of 27th November has been set.

If the motion fails the meeting will have to make a decision as to how to proceed to avoid the Society going into limbo and being unable to access its funds.

The constitution is available to either read or download in the documents area of the society’s website – www.streetsociety.org.  Alternatively a copy can be obtained from the Membership Secretary Catherine Atkins.
