Special General Meeting & Talk by The Mendip Times : Street Society
Protecting the past with an eye to the future

Special General Meeting & Talk by The Mendip Times

Prior to the Society’s monthly meeting on Tuesday 23rd October a Special General Meeting took place.

Sue Monaghan had been unsuccessful in pulling together a new Executive Committee although she had garnered some interest in establishing a new group in the New Year with Community Interests at its heart.  This group would go under a different name and have differing objects to those set out in our constitution.

Therefore the following motion was put to the meeting:

“The Executive Committee of The Street Society proposes that the Society be dissolved at the earliest opportunity in accordance with item 18 of the constitution.”

The discussion was minimal and prior to a vote, Linda Wilson thanked Sue Monaghan for her efforts in trying to get officers for the Society and in turn Sue Monaghan thanked the committee for their work, some of them over many years, and their attempts to secure the future of the society.

When a vote was taken all 22 members present voted in favour of the motion.  The existing Executive Committee was prepared to see through the process of the dissolution of the society and the meeting also agreed this unanimously.

Therefore the Executive Committee has set the Society’s monthly meeting of 27th November as a Special General Meeting to ratify the decision to close and to agree the dispersion of the Society’s funds that amount to approximately £2500.  The venue will be the Methodist Church, Leigh Road, STREET, BA16 0HA starting at 7.30pm.  Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available before the meeting.

All members are asked to contact any committee member if they wish to put forward a suggestion as to potential recipients of the balance of the Society’s funds.

After the business of the Special General Meeting our guest speaker was Steve Egginton, the Editor of The Mendip Times, who talked about his life in journalism and the birth of the publication and related subjects.  Follow this link The Mendip Times for more information.
